Baking Cookies

GET A LARGE MIXING BOWL
by: Adine Cathey

AN EGG, SOME SUGAR AND SPICE,
STIR IN SOME FLOUR AND MILK
WE'RE GOING TO MAKE SOMETHING NICE.

MIXING AND STIRRING, TAKING TURNS
SOME FLOUR FALLS ON THE FLOOR,
BUT THAT'S OKAY GRANNY WILL SWEEP
WE'LL JUST DIP IN THE SACK AND GET MORE.

WITH A HANDFUL OF COOKIE CUTTERS
WE CHOOSE JUST THE RIGHT ONE,
WITH OUR SMALL HANDS, WE ROLL THE DOUGH
THIS WILL BE SO MUCH FUN !

THERE ARE DUCKS, COWS, A FAT PIG
A TEDDY BEAR, A BRIGHT STAR,
PLACE THE CUTTER IN THE MIDDLE AND LIFT
I JUST CUT OUT A SMALL CAR.

I END UP WITH FLOUR ON MY NOSE
MY CHEEK AND APRON IS COVERED TOO,
I LOOK LIKE THE MARSHMALLOW MAN
MY SISTER SAYS THAT IS SO TRUE !

CREATING COOKIES TAKE ON STRANGE SHAPES
WE CUT AND CUT AND MAKE A LOT,
SOON WE ARE OUT OF COOKIE DOUGH
BETTER GET THE OVEN NICE AND HOT.

PLACE THE DOUGH ON A BAKING SHEET
INTO THE HOT OVEN TO BAKE,
I WISH THEY WERE ALREADY COOLED
I WILL COUNT TO SEE HOW MANY I MADE.

AFTER THE COOKIES ARE COOLED
I CAN ICE THEM WITH RED, GREEN OR BLUE,
THEN WHO ALL WANTS TO EAT THESE GOODIES ?
WHY I BET DADDY...THAT'S WHO !!

Molasses Cookies:

3/4 cup of shortening (I used butter)
1 cup of sugar
1/4 cup of molasses
1 egg
2 tsp. baking soda
2. cups of flour
1/2 tsp. of cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt

Mix all ingredients. Roll in to a ball. Dip in sugar and place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. *NOTE: when the cookies come out of the oven, they're very soft. I've found that waiting a few minutes before taking the cookies off the tray works best*

Enjoy!

In The Kitchen: Home-Made Reeces Peanut Butter Cups

I think almost every girl *loves* chocolate, so I decided to post the "recipe" on my blog.

What you'll need:

  • A handful of milk chocolate chips
  • A teaspoon of peanut butter
  • A paper cup-cake holder.
  • A freezer

1) So, what you'll need to do first is to put your chocolate chips in the microwave from 30 second time periods until the chocolate is melted. *DO NOT BURN YOUR CHOCOLATE*

2) Put half the chocolate in the bottom of the paper cupcake holder.

3) Put a bit of peanut butter in the center of your chocolate, and *spread it* around.

4) Now, put the other half of your chocolate ontop of the peanutbutter/chocolate and make sure it covers everything..

5) Put it in the freezer, and let it harden,

6) Enjoy!

In the Kitchen: Molasses Cookies

I have been "dying" for some good molasses cookies, since Mom bought a jar of  molasses.  So, away to the shelf of cookbooks, to find a good recipe.  After looking at several recipes I found this one!  I made them, and they taste REALLY good. : ) Here's the recipe:
Molasses Cookies:

3/4 cup of shortening (I used butter)
1 cup of sugar
1/4 cup of molasses
1 egg
2 tsp. baking soda
2. cups of flour
1/2 tsp. of cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt

Mix all ingredients. Roll in to a ball. Dip in sugar and place on a greased cookie sheet.  Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.  *NOTE: when the cookies come out of the oven, they are really soft, but they harden while cooling.*

:) Enjoy!
